Of course competition at the major university level, and in the Olympic Games, is also important in terms of national pride and individual achievements for elite athletes. But at the community level, gymnastics is also important because it provides a way for young people to learn about -- and pursue -- practices that promote healthy living. The correlation between components of physical fitness and gymnastics: an article in the Journal of Physical Education, Recreation & Dance (Donham-Foutch, 2007) asserts that training in gymnastics is "an excellent means of teaching basic motor skills, as well as health-related fitness" (Donham-Foutch). The point of the article, in addition to making clear how components of gymnastics training relates to keeping fit, is that gymnastics programs for children are being developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Coordinated School Health Program (CSHP). In the first and ninth weeks of continuing-education…...

Fall of US Womens Gymnastics
Larry Nassar and the Risks of US Women’s Gymnastics American gymnastics, particularly women’s gymnastics, has been one of the most popular summer Olympic sports for many decades. Even during non-Olympic years, it has a large following among young girls and their families. Many young girls dream of being the next Shannon Miller or Mary Lou Retton. Unfortunately, pursuit of these high athletic goals comes at a high price for some children. The high risk of injury, years of formative social and educational interactions, and even eating disorders are well-known as risks of the sport. A risk that was less publicized was the dangers of experiencing sexual abuse at the hands of trusted male members of the American Olympics team. The recent online #metoo movement has brought to light many sexual crimes perpetuated by men against young girls and women in the entertainment industry. But the #metoo movement has its counterpart in the…...

Secondly, the report alluded to by CSC asserts that in "gender symmetric" sports there are "far more scholarships available for women (32,656) than for men (20,206)." The third bullet point in the CSC press release points out that men's volleyball is the "by far the most difficult" scholarship at the Division I level; there are reportedly 489 high school athletes for every full ride NCAA scholarship. The "underlying" data that CSC used to put together their press release comes from two NCAA reports: "1981-82-2006-07 NCAA Sports Sponsorship and Participation Rate Report" and "2006-07 NCAA Division I Manual." Also factored into the report is data from the national Federation of State High School Associations. And so what is the College Sports Council calling on the federal government -- and the Department of Education (DOE) -- to do? The press release says that "women are accorded far more opportunities to compete and ear…...

Education then is necessary to help prevent the failures of government - for Socrates, an aristocracy represents a rule by the "best" citizens whose educations have centered upon training the warrior-guardians to be swift, philosophic, spirited and strong. This education is significant because in order to prevent the corruption that power so often has upon those who wield it - it is the broadly educated, self-aware, and community-driven individual who can truly understand their own place within the machinery of society. The philosopher-king places himself above society leaving the warrior-guardian to protect the lives and livelihoods of not only the individual citizenry, but of the entire community itself. 7-What are Socrates main concerns about education in music? (Remember, music consists of poetry and stories, theater, and music) What are his main points about education in gymnastic and the relation of the body to the mind/soul? Using the ring of Gyges as his 'proof,' he finds the last reason to be the most persuasive. What Socrates definition of justice in the state is as found in Book IV? Compare the parts of the just state to the parts of the just soul. Describe the virtues of each. Socrates defines justice in terms of balance, as every person doing what he is best suited to do -- to rule, fight, or labor. This is why the just state is structured into three classes, the philosopher kings who rule, the military class that defends the state, and the ordinary laborers. The philosopher kings govern by virtue of knowing best, the military class is necessary to defend the state, and the laborers are necessary to do the practical work of the land, so people can eat. All classes are necessary, and correspond to the soul, mind, and body split that…...

The participants should be able to rate their performance both in the experimental situation involving a small audience and in that involving a large audience. This is also a measure of their self-efficacy prior to exposure to the audiences. The purpose of this act is to see whether the change in their self-evaluation is due to exposure to the audiences. The self-evaluation is done by using a self-administered questionnaire. The second stage is the exposure to the two types of audience. After performing in front of the two types of audiences, the group of gymnasts is asked to rate themselves using the same self-administered questionnaire. Using the subjects' self-evaluation it is possible to identify the changes. And by taking into consideration the changes it would be possible to decide whether the size of the audience had any impact on the performance. However, in such a study it is possible to…...

A summary of the review concludes the chapter. Hypnosis In his study, "Cognitive Hypnotherapy in the Management of Pain," Dowd (2001) reports that, "Several theories have een proposed to account for the effect of hypnosis. State theories assume that the hypnotic trance is qualitatively different from all other human experiences. From this perspective, trance capacity is supposedly a fairly stale trait that exhiits sustantial individual differences. mla bibliography. (2010). / pages/7857/Meditation-Eastern.html. http://science.jrank.org Many religious traditions have practices that could possibly be labeled meditation. In Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, these practices are usually associated with prayer, contemplation, or recitation of sacred texts. In the religious traditions of the Native Americans, Australian aboriginals, Siberian peoples, and many others, what could be identified as meditation techniques are incorporated within the larger rubric of shamanism. It is, however, in the religions of Asia that meditation has been most developed as a religious method. Meditation has played an important role in the ancient yogic traditions of Hinduism and also in more recent Hindu-based new religious movements such as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation program. But it is most especially in the monastic or "elite" forms of the various traditions of Buddhism (Theravada, Tibetan/Vajrayana, and Ch'an/Zen) that meditation techniques have taken center stage and have been developed to the highest degree of sophistication and complexity. The results of this study clearly showed that meditation, per se, does not produce a short-term improvement in cognitive performance compared to other relaxation techniques.

HTC and violation of Internal evenue Service (IS) standards. If not addressed, these issues could have serious legal ramifications on HTC, not to mention the potential loss of public confidence. Whether in for-profit or non-profit organizations, ethical challenges exist in virtually all types of organizations (hode & Packel, 2009). For non-profit organizations, expectations of ethical conduct are particularly higher as the organizations are generally involved in charitable causes. Nonetheless, achieving absolute ethical behavior remains a daunting challenge for most non-profit organizations. On its part, HTC engages in "ethical' behavior solely for the purpose of gaining profits for the goodwill in generates. In other words, the organization is involved in a charitable cause not for the purpose of enhancing community welfare, but as a means toward a self-serving end (profits and the accumulation of wealth). Sports Surfing and Other Underrated
In many cases, the sports that are largely ignored in the U.S. are equally deserving of national exposure and coverage, because they demand the same level of natural talent, skill, and expertise as those high-profile sports that enjoy extensive national coverage. Especially in the wake of recent revelations and scandals arising in the major American sports involving use of steroids, violent assaults on women, driving under the influence of alcohol, and federal convictions for those types of crimes as well as for cruelty to animals have undermined the traditional reputation of professional athletes as role models in modern American society. To date, no such controversies have plagued any of the lesser-appreciated sports in the U.S. In that regard, surfing in particular is associated with health, vitality, and natural physical fitness that is not at all likely to fall prey to illegal or performance-enhancing drug use in the sport. Furthermore, unlike…...

It is noted that students be chosen at an early age and that only those students with a true love of learning and never ending quest for knowledge will become true philosophers. The student of philosophy must possess the virtues of courage, magnificence, apprehension and memory as his natural gifts and that without proper education, these very qualities may result in men who are regarded as utterly useless or depraved. The educators' responsibilities increase with the most gifted minds as when they are ill-educated, they have greatest capacity for the greatest crimes and true evil. Conversely, Socrates and his cronies appear to believe that only a very few individuals are capable of understanding philosophy and that lesser minds have no need to learn philosophy as they are not as capable of accomplishment of good or evil. In my opinion, the statement which has withstood the test of time appears in Book IV wherein…...

Influence Toward My Educational Philosophy: Practically, Aristotle's creation of subjects and his primitive research, which set the foundation for further research, influenced my educational philosophy by insisting the importance of a pragmatic education and establishing the tools for that education -- research. Aristotle's contribution, therefore, shaped my understanding of the purpose of education -- a means toward intellectual inquiry. What challenges do Australian boys face in sports and how can these be overcome?
Challenges Faced by Australian Boys in Sports Australian boys face several challenges in sports, which hinder their participation, development, and overall well-being. These challenges include: 1. It also limits boys' emotional expression and vulnerability, creating barriers to seeking help when facing challenges. 2. College Essay On Gymnastics
Anyone who knows me knows that I used to be a gymnast, and that I was absolutely crazy about the sport. I started doing gymnastics at the age of three, which was too young to be in kindergarten but not too early to start gymnastics. Fast forward six years, and my coaches invited me to start doing gymnastics competitively. It took six years of involvement in the sport for me to finally earn a spot on the competitive team. Being one of the older girls, I always had the responsibility to act in a correct way for the younger girls, because they looked up to me and they wanted to be like me one day, and I had to set the example of the appropriate way to act. When I first joined the competitive team, I felt right at home. There was no doubt …show more content…
I learned about not giving up on what you want just because you didn 't get it the first time, or because it is going to be a harder than you thought. If I fell off of the balance beam at practice, or at a competition, I would get back up and keep trying. I ended up A big part of gymnastics was trying new things. There was always some new flip or move that we hadn’t tried, and our coaches liked to make the girls on the team guinea pigs in leotards. Pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone was something I wasn 't used to at first. Usually, if I was unfamiliar or even slightly skeptical about something, there was no way you’d get me to try it. But gymnastics taught me to be more open and accepting towards new things. Eventually, I found myself eager to learn a new skill, even if it was intimidating. Looking back, this was probably one of the most After gymnastics, the words “try, try again” are probably permanently etched into my brain. After doing one routine, feedback was given, and then you did it again. You had to adapt and fix your mistakes while still remembering how you did things correctly before. No one asked you to be perfect, but I always tried to do my best at whatever task or challenge was thrown at me. Even after practices, I would go home and continue to work at my skills at

This year in ENGL 1301, we’ve been discussing what specific elements make up a good argument. By using logos, ethos and pathos appeals, it is possible to reason with a large variety of people instead of one specific audience. In order to demonstrate that I belonged in this community, I had to prove that I had the skills to become a cheerleader.
Withou Without Failure
As a student athlete, I have learned to use failure as an opportunity to learn. The moments in which I have "failed" have only helped me grow and reflect on the mistakes that not only I have made, but also those made by others. I was forced to do this multiple times throughout my final season of high school field hockey. Even though the team had players who were devoted and had a true desire to win, the season ended as a losing record in the books. As the primary goalie and captain, this was extremely difficult to accept.

My Life As An Immigrant
As an immigrant, relocating to America does not necessarily mean a permanent settlement. More often than not, my family moved in multiple occasions as my family found it challenging to achieve a sustainable way of life. During the span of my childhood, I have moved to seven cities within a span of fourteen years and enrolled at five schools. Being an oriental immigrant proved to be enough of an embarrassment to my moral standards, but being labeled as “the new kid”, activated my deepest insecurities. As a student, I always find myself stressed about things like homework, tests, due dates, grades, rent, and all other sorts of college-related problems. When I start to feel overwhelmed by all of the noise of being a young college student, I turn to the one thing that gives me the greatest sense of purpose and inner piece; weightlifting. For me, a weightlifting session is a form of meditation, a time when I can be by myself and truly find inner peace. What College Essays About Gymnastics Should and Shouldn’t Do
Admissions officer reviewed by Ben Bousquet, M.Ed Former Vanderbilt University

Key Takeaway
If you weren’t already aware, college essays about sports are notorious among admissions officers.
Why? Because they’re really common and tend to be surface-level and full of cliches.
It’s a bummer, I know.
At this point, you might be wondering if you should reconsider writing your college essay about gymnastics.
I’ve got some good news for you.
Since gymnastics isn’t a very common sport, your admissions officers probably won’t have read many essays like yours. That means that you’ll have an easier time getting that 10/10.
But some ways of approaching your college essay about gymnastics are better than others.
Let’s get into it.
Avoid These Cliches When Writing About Gymnastics
We’ll kick things off by going over what not to do in your college essay. The following two approaches tend to be steeped in cliches and often don’t tell admissions officers much about the writer.
Gymnastics Changed Your Life on a Generic Level
One of the most common cliches in college essays about sports is an overstatement of the impact the sport has had.
Of course, gymnastics is bound to be a big, important part of your life if you want to write your college essay about it. It probably has changed your life!
But the key here is avoiding the “generic” description of how your life was changed. Avoid drawing only on simple themes of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Those traits are great ones to convey in your essay, but they shouldn’t be the main theme admissions officers take away.
Your Story is Only About How You Won/Lost/Got Injured
The other cliche to avoid is a convenient story about how you won or lost a competition or how you overcame an injury.
Again, it’s likely that you’ve had triumphant wins, devastating losses, and maybe even difficult injuries. But too often, students writing sports essays use a setback or a win as a way to make a convenient humble brag about how they are hard workers or resilient.
Remember that your personal statement should be about a core part of who you are, not only about a moment or a generic life lesson. You want it to be thoughtful, reflective, and even vulnerable. If you’re only focusing on a surface-level difficulty, you risk coming across as inauthentic to admissions officers.
Effective Ways to Write Your College Essay about Gymnastics
Alright, with those cliches out of the way, let’s take a look at two ways to write a college essay about gymnastics that will impress admissions officers.
Gymnastics Allows You to Tell a Deeper Story About Your Life
Some of the best college essays about gymnastics aren’t about gymnastics at all. They’re actually about a deeper life story that simply relates to gymnastics.
Maybe gymnasts run in your family and your participation has brought you closer to your parent or grandparent. Or maybe it’s how you met a specific person who influenced you or led you to become the person you are today. Or perhaps you learned a valuable lesson about who you are outside of gymnastics.
In this approach, you use gymnastics as a mechanism to tell an even more significant story about yourself. Admissions officers will see that gymnastics relates to a deeper part of you, and they’ll appreciate your vulnerability in going beyond what happened on the mat to truly reflect on the person you are today.
You Have an Outstanding Accomplishment in Gymnastics
Did you compete in the Olympics? Or win a national or international gymnastics competition? Your personal statement can be a great place to draw out those accomplishments and elaborate on how they impacted you and those around you.
If you go this route, the point isn’t to brag about how great you are at gymnastics. The admissions officer will be impressed by your accomplishments alone.
Instead, bring your accomplishments to life by reflecting on them meaningfully. Emphasize your magnitude, reach, and impact . How did the accomplishment affect you? How did it affect others? How notable or rare is it? What do you want admissions officers to learn about you through this accomplishment?
The Bottom Line
So should you write your college essay about gymnastics?
While you still run the risk of falling into overdone sports essay tropes, gymnastics is a less common sport that may help set your application apart.
Think about whether gymnastics allows you to tell the best story you want to tell, and if so, be sure to avoid these common themes and focus on what will create your cohesive application narrative .

Gymnastics is unequivocally one of the primary facets of my life, and consequently, becomes the preeminent vehicle for many of the successes and challenges in my life. The most prominent challenge challenge presented by the sport is that of time: I simply don’t have remotely the time that the typical high schooler does, even the prototypical high-achiever. A forty-five minute commute to a three-or-more hour long practice, four days a week, year-round becomes quite the time crunch, and makes it difficult
