When writing an essay, there is a logical structure you must follow in giving out your arguments. A proper outline will produce an exciting presentation of every section, and it will fascinate the reader. The standard structure of an essay has an introduction, body, and conclusion. Here is an excellent example of an outline for a family history essay:

  • Introduction
  • Short family background information
  • Importance of writing about the family
  • Body (paragraphs)
  • Family members; grandparents, parents, and children
  • The community in which family resides
  • Form of livelihood
  • Conclusion (a summarizing paragraph)
  • Restating your contention
  • Summarize your key ideas
  • Provide a final comment or reflection about the essay

When writing a presentation about family history, you need to provide a hook to the readers, to make them interested to know much about the family. You can start with facts or anecdotes about grandparents; for example, how they met on the first date and opted to make a family together, you can as well describe the circumstances. You can also provide an insight into a situation by your ancestors that impacted your life experience—the other thing to include in the short background information about your family. Remember to provide a clear and debatable thesis statement that will serve as the roadmap for your discussion in the paper.

The body paragraphs contain the arguments one needs to discuss the subject topic. Every section includes the main idea or explanatory statement as the first sentence; the primary purpose is a debatable point that you need to prove. The length of a paragraph depends on the accurate measurement of ideas. In most cases, a section has about five sentences; but it can be as short or long as you want, depending on what you discuss. A paragraph has the main statement, supporting sentence(s) with evidence, and concluding sentences. When crafting the body, ensure a clear flow of ideas, connecting from one argument to the other. Transitional words, when used accordingly, can provide a nice transition and flow of ideas from one paragraph to the other. The commonly used transitional words or phrases include moreover, also, therefore, consequently, hence, thus, finally, etc.

A conclusion is as crucial as the introduction; it is the final recap of what your essay entails. The ending paragraph contains three main parts that form a full section. First, remind the audience of your thesis statement and show its relation to the essay topic. Second, provide a summary of the key arguments that you discussed in the body paragraphs. Third, it is advisable to add a final comment or general reflection about the essay. It's important to state that you should use different wording in the conclusion when restating statements and arguments. Also, remember to use signal words at the start of concluding paragraphs like in conclusion, finish, etc.

Revision is an opportunity for a student to review the content in his/her paper and identify parts that need improvement. Some students start revising as they begin drafting their essays. During revision, you need to restructure and rearrange sentences to enhance your work quality and ensure the message reaches your audience well. Revising gives you a chance to recheck whether the essay has a short main idea and a thesis statement, a specific purpose, whether the introduction is strong enough to hook the audience and organization of the article. Also, you check if there is a clear transition from one paragraph to another and ascertain if the conclusion is competent enough to emphasize the purpose of the paper.

Nothing is more frustrating than submitting an essay to earn dismal grade due to silly common mistakes. Proofreading is an essential stage in the editing process. It is an opportunity for reviewing the paper, identifying and correcting common mistakes such as typos, punctuation, grammatical errors, etc. Since proofreading is the final part of the editing, proofread only after finishing the other editing stages like revision. It is advisable to get help from another pair of eyes; you can send the paper to your friend to help you in the same process. There are online proofreading tools such as Grammarly and Hemingway, which you can use to proofread, but you should not only rely on grammar checkers. Remember to proofread the document at least three times.

Making citations is an essential way of keeping references for the sources of content you used. As you are editing, you may make several changes to the document. Do not forget to correctly provide citations for every fact or quote you obtained from other sources. There are different citation formats such as APA, MLA, etc.; therefore, you need to ensure correct usage of quotes depending on the requirement by your professor. The sources you cite present the list of references or bibliography at the end of your essay for easy reference.

short essay about my family history

Would you want to know how it all started until here? My grandpa told me that he met my grandma at a concert where one of the greatest artists was performing during one of the summer holidays in New York City. As he was dancing alone, my grandpa approached a beautiful lady (who would become his soulmate) to ask her to dance together. They later agreed to meet for a dinner date. Our family lives in New York. Undoubtedly, this is the best family, and it's an honor to be part of it.

Every person has two sides within his/her family; my paternal side originates from Canada, while the maternal side is from America. Although my great grandfather comes from Canada, my grandpa and grandma live in New York. My grandfather is Afro-American who worked as a bartender, no wonder he loved concerts! My father works as a conservationist for aquatic fauna while my mother works in the bakery. My mother and father met in a supermarket when they were both doing shopping.

Although we live in the same city, my grandparents have their apartment, a distance from ours. We live as a family of five; dad, mum, and three children. As we all live in the same city, we (me and my two sisters) occasionally visit our grandparents during the weekends to spend some time with them; grandpa and I were doing some gardening while my sisters and grandma do cook and other house chores. The bond between our great parents and ours is very excellent.

At Christmas, all my children, mum, and dad travel to our grandparents for a whole week. During the new year, we get together at our house, my parent's house, to welcome the year as an entire family. Sometimes during the weekends, we usually spend most of our time on the beach swimming, except on church days. As a family, our favorite food is deep-fried fish, rice, and vegetables. However, my grandpa likes chicken hash.

In conclusion, the social co-existence between us is excellent, which has created a robust mutual bond for the family. From visiting each other, spending time on the beach, having to get together meals to usher the new year, and celebrating Christmas as a family, the bond keeps growing. I am privileged to be part of such a great family.

The given prompt: Beyond blood relations, how has the concept of family evolved in contemporary culture?

In traditional terms, a family often conjured images of a group connected by the intricate web of blood relations: parents, siblings, and extended kin. However, as the hands of time have ticked forward, the idea of family has undergone a significant evolution, particularly in contemporary culture.

In today’s world, the essence of family is not restricted solely to genetic ties. Instead, it blossoms in the spaces of shared experiences, mutual care, love, and most importantly, genuine connection. The idea that “blood is thicker than water” has been both challenged and redefined as people create familial bonds with those they aren’t biologically related to.

With the rise in diverse living situations, it’s common to find families where members aren’t linked by DNA. Adoptive families are a testament to the idea that the foundations of family go beyond genes. Here, connections are forged with love, understanding, and a mutual commitment to each other’s well-being. Similarly, stepfamilies and blended families break the mold of the traditional family unit, proving that genuine relationships can flourish in spaces beyond blood ties.

Moreover, the concept of “chosen families” has gained prominence, especially within communities that value deep-rooted friendships and bonds. In many instances, individuals, due to various reasons, may become estranged from their biological families. In the void that this creates, they often find solace, support, and a sense of belonging with friends or mentors, essentially building a family by choice, not by birth.

Another dimension of the evolving family concept is the recognition and acceptance of families with same-sex parents. As societies grow more inclusive, the narrative around family has expanded to honor and celebrate diverse family structures. In these families, just as in any other, love, care, and shared responsibilities define the bond.

Cultural exchanges, travel, and global communication have also played a role in reshaping the family’s notion. In an interconnected world, individuals from different corners of the globe meet, bond, and form families, blending cultures, traditions, and values. These intercultural families are beautiful tapestries of shared stories and united dreams.

However, with this expanded understanding of family, contemporary culture also brings challenges. The acceptance of diverse family structures isn’t universal, and many face societal judgment. It underscores the importance of broadening perspectives and understanding that at the core of every family, irrespective of its structure, lie the universal values of love, support, and commitment.

In essence, the definition of family in today’s world is fluid, reflecting the cultural, societal, and individual shifts of our times. While blood relations will always hold significance, the boundaries of family have extended, warmly embracing all forms of genuine connection and mutual care.

As we navigate the complexities of modern life, these evolved family structures offer comfort, reminding us that family is less about who we share our genes with and more about who we share our lives with. In the heartbeats of these diverse families, we find the timeless rhythms of love, care, and belonging.

Definition of family, there are several different definitions of the word family in the dictionary, but that, does not necessarily mean one needs to be blood related to be considered as family. anything can be, considered as family are many aspects that define the word family such as love, loyalty, and, compassion., being considered family requires love, or a passionate affection for another person., it does not necessarily require parents to be considered family; the love can come from a, parent also. the way a single parent can sacrifice their needs for their child, or even go, without eating just to make sure their child eats, shows love that only a single parent family could, truly understand. for example, a single mother would.. more content..., best friends give their honest opinions because they want what's best, for their friends. for example, a high school graduate straight out of school was trying to decide, to go straight to college or take a break from school. while all of his friends were encouraging him, stay out of school and party, stating that he had all his life to attend college, his best friend, him to attend college. the best friend explained that it would be his most beneficial decision he can, make to go straight to college, and the friend stayed loyal by his side while he made his decision., and best friends both can show loyalty and make them great assets to family., compassion is a huge aspect of being a family. a single father shows compassion by his, concern for his child. a compassionate father tend to go the extra mile to read to their child every, so they will not struggle in school , or even keeping them in sports and buying whole foods so their, child will grow up to have a healthy lifestyle. compassionate parents take the extra step because, their compassion for their child is strong. adoptive parents also show compassion, by striving, get more content on studyhub, definition essay on what family means, what family truly means, the definition of family to society is; all the descendants of a common ancestor, however that, definition is wrong in my opinion. family means a special bond or connection between a person., you can be yourself and can trust them with all your heart and soul and never challenge or question, their loyalty., family means more than just blood related relatives or cousins around the neighborhood. there is a, greater meaning behind the word. society has been relatively wrong these past generations. so what, happens when you have no "family" don't have to worry about this issue, because family are also, friends who will always care for you and will always be by your side through hell and back. family, will come out of, definition essay on family, what does family mean on dictionary, family means "a basic social unit consisting of parents, and their children." family is all about being together to help each other. connections inside of a, family is what ensures a secure environment for children to feel safe in. in order for a child to feel, safe, the basic needs a family should provide care, support, and time., the first thing that is important in a family is caring. other people would think caring is about being, there for them, but that is not the case. caring is different when it comes to family. when a child has, a health issue, parents wouldn't go to work and get an adult to watch them. the parents would want, to stay with their child to make them feel strong and get better. parents worry more about their, child's health than they do their own health. siblings are another important part of caring in a family., having a sibling, you can talk to instead of your parents about your problems. it's good to have a, close connection with your siblings, so that they can help you during your hard times. however,, being a family isn't only about one person's problem; it's about giving good advice. family advice is, always about providing positive sayings and not always about being negative. when i have a.., more content..., although nowadays parents are usually working and children are out with their friends, families, should still make the effort to have dinner with each other. having dinner with each other promotes, a better bond. a bond is sacred to ensure the family's well–being with each other. another way to, spend time with your family is going on trips, which brings your family together. my family trips, are a tradition, it's where we can have a fun time and bring us together. without spending time with, each other, families will be unable to know and understand each other well enough to be able to, defend each other when facing, family definition, beliefs about definition and membership regarding family, family is a group of people who are related by blood, marriage, or adoption. this is the definition, adopted by the u. government, and i believe it is the most accurate. family holds a sense of, commitment over time. this excludes friends, significant others, and pets. friends may come in and, out of your life, especially after moving or significant life transitions. boyfriends and girlfriends are, open to walk away once the relationship is not going as they would like since there is not the, commitment of marriage. yet, family is bound by one of the initial criteria through all stages and, circumstances of life. you may have very close friends that feel like family, but the feeling, along.. more content..., i like pictures, videos, demonstrations, anything that will help me to visualize concepts. i can, remember things much better if i have a way to see it in my mind, whether than is visioning the, spelling of word when i try to write it or thinking of a concrete example that goes along with the, concept. i think that my instinct would be to teach this way as well because that's what works for, as i mentioned, using visuals is very helpful for me. but more than that, i think that practicing what, i am learning is the best way for me to understand something. for example, if i am learning about, how to knead bread, it is helpful for me to watch a demonstration first, but then i need to physically, knead the bread in order to put the entire concept together. watching alone only gets me part way, there. i would really like to use a more kinesthetic, hands on approach in my own classroom, someday. i like to be up and active and having others do things along with me, and i think most, people learn well doing hands on activities. i would incorporate other helpful methods along with, using movement, though. i know for myself that i need that visual guidance first, whether that is, watching someone or even reading instruction, but if i just listen to someone explain the process, i, most likely will miss a lot of key pieces of information. so, my goal would be to use both visual and, auditory elements to introduce, the word family means everything you could ask of a person and more. the real definition of, family is, "a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household". this definition, of family is not the one a use. family to me is everyone who is there for you, blood or not. i, consider my close best friends as family because they are always there, and i know i can come to, them. i also consider most people who are related to me by blood family. however, since i don't talk, or really know my biological father, i don't consider him as a part of my family and i never will. i, think it's important for people to know that you are able to choose your family and block out those, that you know you should. the best thing to do is to make sure, definition essay family, according to the merriam–webster dictionary the definition of a family is a group of related people, including people who lived in the past. a family is just like a tree with many branches and you, cannot choose the branches that wither and die. to be a family does not necessarily mean you have, to be related by blood. my family started off as a big, beautiful, healthy green tree, but when the two, most important branches withered away the tree lost its luster. for my family my grandparents were, the foundation, they kept the family together and happy. when they were living their house was our, meeting place for sunday dinner, birthday parties, and everything else. there is an african proverb, that says "a family is like a tree, it can bend but, defining family essay, determining family structure and dynamics as well as defining the family is a complex process., personally, i come from a very traditional family. much like the assumptions made by the students, in the article defining family: young adults' perceptions of the parent–child bond by mellisa, holtzman (2008). this is what comes to mind when most people define family; a nuclear family,, with married parents, and biological children. however, a family is a complex system and can take, on many different forms. today, in a world of the "postmodern family" the traditional lines of family, structure are blurred. children may come from diverse types of homes, or a couple, married or not, may choose to have no children and consider.. more content..., living with extended family members has also been publicized lately in relation to the poor, economy. young adults who typically lived on their own after college are moving back in with their, parents, older adults on fixed incomes that do not go as far as they once did are living with their, children. this is a definite shift in the traditional family. having graduated and moved out on my, own prior to the economic decline i have learned to live with less, but having known that was, coming i would have considered living at home longer. my siblings have or are planning on moving, back in with our parents after college graduation to get ahead money–wise. this is a stressor on not, only the individuals as a lack of feelings of freedom, but also an adaptation by the family as a whole, that was unplanned years ago. it is my belief that recognizing any family structure or definition is, important, as the traditional version may be skewed in so many ways, without knowing or, recognizing the "family" that people we run across may come from. we can also learn from other, family definitions to build upon our own themes, rules, and beliefs. adding stigma and prejudice, toward families different from our own not only alienate the members, but can add unnecessary, stress upon that family system. stress in any family system can be seen as either an adaptation, potential or a negative force. many effects on the.
