General Education Courses
Public & Applied Humanities general education courses are designed to help students attain a critical and inquiring attitude; develop an appreciation of the interdisciplinary nature of subject areas; gain skills in project management and creative problem solving; and deepen a sense of self. By selecting our general education courses, students will be prepared to respond more fully and effectively to an increasingly complex and ambiguous world.

Find General Education Courses in Class Search
Follow the steps below to successfully search for General Education courses in Class Search.
Step One: Know Your Program
There are two General Education programs at the University of Arizona. For most students, the program is determined by the semester students first started taking classes at the UA.
New Program
If you started taking courses for the first time at the UA in the Spring 2022 semester and AFTER, then you are in the new General Education program .
Tiers Program
If you started taking courses for the first time at the UA BEFORE the Spring 2022 semester, then you are in the Tiers General Education program .
If you don't know which General Education program you are enrolled in, ask your advisor!
Step two: go to class search.
After you've identified the correct General Education Program, it's time to go to Class Search . Select the appropriate campus and then proceed to Step Three .
Step THREE: Select the Correct Program
When searching for new GE Program courses in Class Search, select "General Ed (Begins Spring 22)".
When searching for Tiers courses in Class Search, select "General Ed-Tiers (Before Spring 22)".

General Education Entry and Exit Courses
The General Education curriculum described below applies to all students who matriculate in Spring 2022 or beyond. Students who matriculated in Fall 2021 should consult the Fall 2021 General Education Curriculum policy .
New students who are classified as first-year students at the point of admission will be required to take UNIV 101 as their entry course and UNIV 301 as their exit course for General Education.
UNIV 101: Introduction to the General Education Experience. A 1-unit course, required for new first-year students, providing an introduction to and a foundation for the General Education experience at the University of Arizona.
UNIV 301: General Education Portfolio. A new 1-unit course designed to help students reflect upon and make meaning of the General Education experience through the refinedment of their ePortfolio.
All other new UArizona students (including transfer and readmitted students) will have the option of taking either or both of these courses but will not be required to complete them for graduation provided that they still complete the minimum number of units of general education coursework required by ABOR policy.

Tier Two – Humanities, Individuals & Societies, Natural Sciences, and Arts courses; Diversity Emphasis – Gender, Race, Class, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, or Non-Western Area Studies (one course) General Education policies pertaining to transfer students: Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC)

One course (or 3 units) in a student’s degree program must focus on one of the following areas: Gender, Race, Class, Ethnicity, Sexual Orientation, or Non-Western Studies. Courses that satisfy the Diversity Emphasis Requirement are identified in the course descriptions provided by the General Education Committee.
