Part 1: Introduction and Interview
In Part 1, the examiner may ask some general questions about websites and internet usage. Here are some possible questions with sample answers:
Do you often use the internet?
Sample answer (Band 7-8): “Yes, I use the internet extensively on a daily basis. It’s an integral part of my life, both for work and personal activities. I find it indispensable for staying connected, gathering information, and managing various tasks efficiently.”
What do you usually use the internet for?
Sample answer (Band 8-9): “I utilize the internet for a myriad of purposes . Primarily, I use it for professional development , such as researching industry trends and taking online courses. Additionally, I rely on it for social connectivity , managing my finances through online banking, and leisure activities like streaming movies or reading digital books. The internet has become a versatile tool that enhances various aspects of my life.”
Part 2: Long Turn
Here’s a sample cue card for this topic:
Describe a useful website that you visit
You should say:
- What the website is
- How you found out about it
- What you use it for
- And explain why you find it useful
Sample answer (Band 6-7):
“I’d like to talk about a website I find incredibly useful called Duolingo. It’s a language learning platform that I discovered through a friend’s recommendation about two years ago.
I use Duolingo primarily to improve my Spanish skills. The website offers a variety of exercises, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking tasks. What I particularly like is that it breaks down the learning process into small, manageable lessons that I can complete in just a few minutes each day.
I find this website extremely useful for several reasons. Firstly, it’s free to use, which makes language learning accessible to everyone. Secondly, it has a user-friendly interface that makes navigation easy and enjoyable. The gamification elements, such as earning points and competing with friends, keep me motivated to practice regularly. Lastly, the bite-sized lessons fit perfectly into my busy schedule, allowing me to make progress even when I don’t have much free time.
Overall, Duolingo has been a valuable tool in my language learning journey, helping me to consistently improve my Spanish skills in an engaging and convenient way.”
Sample answer (Band 8-9):
“I’d like to discuss a website that I find immensely valuable in my daily life: Khan Academy. This educational platform first came to my attention through a TED Talk by its founder, Sal Khan, and I’ve been an avid user ever since.
Khan Academy is a comprehensive online learning resource that covers a wide array of subjects , from mathematics and science to arts and humanities. I primarily utilize it to augment my understanding of complex topics in physics and computer science, which are relevant to my field of study.
What sets Khan Academy apart and makes it exceptionally useful is its multifaceted approach to education. The website offers meticulously crafted video lectures that break down intricate concepts into digestible segments . These are complemented by interactive exercises and quizzes that allow for immediate application and reinforcement of the learned material.
Moreover, the platform’s adaptive learning technology tailors the content to my individual pace and proficiency level, ensuring a personalized learning experience . This bespoke approach has significantly enhanced my grasp of challenging subjects and accelerated my academic progress.
Another aspect that I find particularly beneficial is the website’s community forum , where learners can engage in meaningful discussions , seek clarification, and even collaborate on problem-solving. This peer-to-peer interaction adds a valuable dimension to the learning process, fostering a sense of global academic community .
In essence, Khan Academy has revolutionized my approach to learning. Its accessibility , comprehensive content , and innovative learning tools have not only supplemented my formal education but have also instilled in me a passion for lifelong learning . The website’s mission to provide world-class education for anyone, anywhere resonates deeply with me, and I’m grateful for the wealth of knowledge it has placed at my fingertips.”
Khan Academy educational website
Follow-up questions:
- How often do you visit this website?
Sample answer (Band 8-9): “I make it a point to access Khan Academy on a daily basis . It has become an integral part of my learning routine, and I typically dedicate at least an hour each day to exploring new concepts or reinforcing previously learned material. This consistent engagement has proven to be instrumental in my academic growth and has significantly enhanced my understanding of complex subjects.”
- Would you recommend this website to others?
Sample answer (Band 8-9): “ Absolutely , I would wholeheartedly recommend Khan Academy to others. Its universal appeal and versatility make it suitable for learners of all ages and backgrounds. Whether someone is a student seeking to supplement their formal education , a professional looking to acquire new skills , or simply an individual with a thirst for knowledge , Khan Academy offers invaluable resources . The website’s user-friendly interface and self-paced learning model make it particularly accessible , even for those who might be apprehensive about online learning .”
Part 3: Two-way Discussion
Examiner: How do you think websites like the one you mentioned are changing education?
Sample answer (Band 6-7): “I believe websites like Khan Academy are having a big impact on education. They’re making learning more accessible to people all over the world, regardless of their location or financial situation. These platforms allow students to learn at their own pace and revisit difficult concepts as many times as they need. They’re also providing resources for subjects that might not be available in all schools, giving students more opportunities to explore different areas of study.”
Sample answer (Band 8-9): “I firmly believe that educational websites like Khan Academy are revolutionizing the landscape of education in several profound ways. Firstly, they’re democratizing access to high-quality educational content , effectively breaking down socioeconomic barriers that have traditionally limited educational opportunities. This equitable access has the potential to level the playing field on a global scale.
Moreover, these platforms are fostering a paradigm shift in how we approach learning. The self-paced, interactive nature of these websites caters to diverse learning styles and allows for a more personalized educational experience . This contrasts sharply with the one-size-fits-all approach often found in traditional educational settings.
Additionally, the availability of comprehensive resources across a wide range of subjects is expanding horizons for learners, allowing them to explore interdisciplinary connections and cultivate a more holistic understanding of complex topics. This breadth of knowledge is increasingly valuable in our interconnected world.
Lastly, these platforms are promoting the concept of lifelong learning . By making education accessible beyond the confines of formal schooling, they’re encouraging individuals to continually upskill and reskill throughout their lives, which is crucial in our rapidly evolving global economy .”
Examiner: Do you think these websites could eventually replace traditional classrooms?
Sample answer (Band 8-9): “While educational websites offer numerous advantages, I don’t believe they will entirely supplant traditional classrooms . Rather, I envision a future where they coexist and complement each other in a blended learning model .
Online platforms excel in providing flexible, self-paced learning and instant access to vast resources . However, traditional classrooms offer irreplaceable benefits such as face-to-face interaction , immediate feedback , and the development of crucial social skills . The collaborative environment of a physical classroom fosters critical thinking and debate in ways that are challenging to replicate fully online.
Moreover, the role of a teacher extends beyond merely imparting knowledge. Teachers provide mentorship , emotional support , and personalized guidance that are essential for holistic development, especially for younger students. They can also adapt their teaching methods in real-time based on students’ responses, something that even the most sophisticated AI-driven platforms cannot fully replicate yet.
That said, I believe the future of education lies in harnessing the strengths of both approaches . We’re likely to see an increase in flipped classroom models , where students use online resources for content delivery and come to class for interactive discussions and problem-solving sessions . This synergistic approach could potentially optimize learning outcomes by combining the benefits of both traditional and online education.”

You may say
- What is the website?
- About the website.
- Why it is useful for me?
I use different websites for various purposes. But, mostly, I am curious about the website Google. It is one of the most exciting and impactful search engines I have ever seen.
Google is the most popular website, and it helps reduce our thinking and mental strain. It has lots of features that make our everyday life comfortable. We can watch lots of videos, and images, read multifarious articles, and newspapers, and learn about diverse things. If one searches any information link, it gives details about various other websites related to it. The information and sources are very relevant and up to the mark. There is no copyright issue on these websites. We can find every kind of information just by searching effortlessly and making people’s lives easier. Google has lots of new features that are very interesting to learn. This website is used by people worldwide as it provides accurate data with easy readability and perfection. It fetches correct information with links and sublinks. This website is more organized with new functionality, security, and privacy. Additionally, we can store our data with complete trust in this website.
When I was in class 3, I started using Google, which helped me research miscellaneous topics not present in the book. Even now, I need Google as support at every moment in my life. It has made reference work easy for me. Moreover, this search portal is the best website for storybooks, magazines, academic books, and comics, etc.
The technology and the advancements in digitization have surely brought plenty of revolutions. Today, you can easily find an array of websites serving varying purposes. However, if I had to name one useful site that I often visit, it would be YouTube.
With its significant establishment across the world, almost everybody is familiar with the fact that YouTube is a video-sharing website. Generally, users upload their videos on this platform and reach a wider set of audience. Right from well-established companies to newbie individuals, everybody and anybody can upload a video on this channel. Also, there are no restrictions in terms of the types of videos to be posted either. Every 24 hours, 30 million users log on to the YouTube site. Also, in a single day, people watch 1 billion hours of content each day. After its inception back in 2005, YouTube was purchased by Google in 2006 for a whopping amount of $1.50 billion.
One of the reasons behind this site is useful for everybody is because it features a huge amount of content. Whether you want answers to complex questions or learn a new skill, with YouTube, you can do wonders. Moreover, if you are a creator, you can upload videos on YouTube and earn a significant amount each month.
The complications of languages have always enticed me. As a result, I have tried to learn as many languages as possible, though I have been mostly unsuccessful due to limited scope until recently. Seeing me so eager to learn, one of my friends suggested I look into Duolingo, a website specialized in teaching the most popular foreign languages.
Since I got to know about this website, I have spent most of my leisure on this website. Although there are set daily goals for each language, I am learning more than one language simultaneously. There are advanced courses as well as courses designed for beginners like me in more than 25 languages. Each word has recorded pronunciations and corresponding pictures, making learning very convenient. There are ten levels of tests that are also easy to understand and the goals based on various common topics are efficiently completed. I have learned quite a bit of Spanish, German, and Arabic by now.
As mentioned earlier, I am a language enthusiast, and this website has been of great help to me. Now, there is an application for the same, but I prefer to work on the website. After a long time, I have got the opportunity to tick off some of my wishes from the list due to this website. What is more encouraging is that I can learn from any place, at any time, by just signing up. Apart from that, there are paid courses as well if one is interested. There is no inconvenience of attending physical classes, fees, travel, etc.

Band 8+: Describe the favourite website you should say what the website í what it offers how often you visit it and explain why you like it so much.
I first heard about the website about two years ago when my friend gave me a book written by Tony Robbins on my birthday. The book is called Awakened the Gentle Thin. I have to say that this book is so inspirational and helpful that I decided to do more research about the author. That is how I found out about his useful website which provides his readers with a wide range of skills, tips and strategies to make life more meaningful. This website has thousands of articles about different aspects of life such as career and business, love and relationships, leadership and impact on health and vitality. If I have a problem, I feel like I can just go to his website and find the solution there. I am more interested in business and leadership so I usually read articles related to these areas. I have learned a great deal from those articles. For example, the articles about productivity have taught me how to use time more wisely to get more things done, how to increase my work performance and productivity and how to have more energy to study more effectively. Another example is that I really want to start my own business in the future and reading articles about business on his website helps me to know more about the steps that I could take to accomplish my goals. So if I had to talk about one of my favorite websites, I would have to be TonyRobins.com. Thanks for listening. Good bye.

Technology review: www.lyricstraining.com.
One of my favourite websites is lyricstraining.com. It’s great because you can learn English while you listen to your favourite songs. You choose a song and then listen to the song and complete the lyrics. You can also watch the video of the song.
The good points include the fact that there are lots of up-to-date groups you can listen to such as The Script or One Direction. In addition, you can choose the level: beginner, intermediate or expert, depending on your level of English. Another good feature is that you can repeat a line of the song as often as you want, until you know the missing word. Also, the website is very easy to navigate and you can listen to songs in different languages, for instance in Spanish, German and Italian.
One of the drawbacks is that some songs aren’t on the website. Another bad point is that there is a lot of advertising on the website. However, you can just ignore it.
To sum up, I think this is an excellent website if you like music and you want to improve your English. You should check it out!

Essay, Paragraph on “My Favourite Websites” English Composition in 200 words for kids and Students of Classes 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, College and Competitive Exams.
My favourite websites.
My favourite websites are those that allow me to play online games for free. As my parents do not approve of me playing computer games too often, I am only allowed to play them for half an hour at night. Although they do not let me purchase any games online, I do not mind as there is a host of free online games that I can play.
Most of my friends like multi-player games. They can compete with other contestants online. Some of my friends like role-playing games. They pretend to be soldiers or football players in a make-believe world. I am different from them. I like puzzles. My friends think that puzzles are boring but I do not think so. I often play puzzles like ‘word search’, ‘crossword puzzle’, ‘hangman’, and ‘Scrabble’. I like to challenge the computer. I am very pleased whenever I defeat the computer in a game. The websites that I go to have a wide variety of these games for me to choose from. Sometimes, there are other interesting variations of traditional games too.
When I grow older, I will probably try multi-player games like my friends do. For now, I prefer the traditional puzzles.
