PHD in Nursing

The Chitkara University School of Nursing PhD program is a research-intensive curriculum that prepares nurses for careers as nurse scientists who will conduct research across a broad range of populations and health conditions. Importantly, much of our research is focused on health disparity population with the long-term goal of informing health policy and clinical practice across the lifespan.

Our PhD program provides students with an understanding of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings of nursing science and a strong foundation in research methods (design, statistics, measurement, quantitative and qualitative methods) for clinical, translational and health services research. All students are mentored by research advisors with active programs of research as they move toward independent research and assume the roles of doctorally prepared nurse scientists.

Program Overview

Doctoral education builds upon and extends competence acquired at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and emphasizes theory development and research skills. The functions of nursing scholars are to: assume leadership roles in complex healthcare and education systems; develop a theoretical and empirical base for nursing practice in both current and emerging healthcare systems; conduct nursing research and participate in developing healthcare policies. The entire thrust is on the professional development of nurses that could lead to evidence-based practice for clinical effectiveness.

Admission Eligibility

The candidates who have completed any of the following qualification(s) are eligible to seek admission to the PhD program as per Chitkara University regulations and UGC Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of PhD Degree Regulations, 2022 issued dated 07.11.2022 [(New Delhi, 7th November, 2022; No. F. 1-3/2021(QIP)].

• A 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program in relevant discipline after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program or
• A 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program in relevant discipline after a 3-year bachelor’s degree program or
• Qualifications declared equivalent to the master’s degree in relevant discipline by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed or
• An equivalent qualification from a foreign educational institution accredited by an assessment and accreditation agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country to assess, accredit or assure quality and standards of the educational institution or

A 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program in relevant discipline with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed, subject to the following conditions:

• The candidate should have a full-time teaching or research/industry experience of atleast 4 years.
• The candidate should be currently working in AICTE/UGC approved College/University/Government agency/industry.

How to Apply

Candidates who fulfil the eligibility criteria, are required to fill the admission form with required documents of all particulars to be attached. All application forms will be screened by a separate screening committee whose representatives will be from Doctoral Research Committee and Experts from the University in the respective areas. The candidates short-listed on the basis of their academic record and relevant experience will appear in a written test to be conducted by the University. Time-table & Curriculum will be intimated to the registered candidates. The candidates will then appear for a personal interview for the final selection.

Program Fee Structure

Program structure.

The curriculum includes compulsory coursework, research proposal and objectives, research work and progress, pre-thesis work, and thesis defense. It also includes fulfillment of all research objectives, acceptance/publication of research papers in peer-reviewed journals or conferences.

The course work comprises of five components: research methodology, advanced research methodology, doctoral foundation seminar, doctoral concentration seminar, and research & publication ethics. After successfully completing coursework, the research scholar works in close coordination and under the strict supervision of his / her research guide, prepares the research proposal, and identifies the objectives of the research work.

Progress of the research work is reviewed every six months and finally, the scholars submit their thesis and defend it. The Doctoral Research Committee (DRC) closely mentors and monitors this process.

Every candidate is expected to follow the procedures laid down for fulfilling the requirements of Ph.D. Programme of the University & University Grant Commission (UGC). Research Policies & Guidelines

NUJ will comply with all applicable rules and regulations laid down by UGC with respect to Ph.D. Programme. Research Board assists scholars in regulatory compliance. We address numerous guides and resources to staying compliant while conducting research and explain important aspects of the program viz. admission procedure, registration, Semester- course work, implementation methodology, conduct of examination, submission of research proposal, appointment of supervisor/co supervisor, Ph.D. thesis submission, evaluation of scholar performance leading to the award of Ph.D. degree etc. The candidates admitted to the Ph.D. programme are expected to be aware of the basic philosophy of the academic program of the University. The University follows semester pattern and a candidate is required to register in the prescribed Ph.D. courses by filling the registration form and paying requisite amount of fees.

Nirwan University Jaipur Ph.D. Programme Steps To Follow

Appear for Nirwan Research Entrance Test (NRET) or Submit your Entrance Test Score of UGC-NET (including JRF) CSIR/ ICMR/ GATE, cleared within the last 2 years.

Presentation & Discussion on your research interest followed by Personal Interview with the panel

Entrance Exam Result will be notified on University Website

Qualified candidates will be intimated through mail to offer the admission

Confirmation of the Candidate Registration after depositing Enrolment fee and required Academic documents (Now called the Research Scholar)

Notification by the University about the commencement of scheduled Course Work classes after depositing the course work fee and semester tuition fee

Course Work exams and declaration of result notified by University

Allotment of Supervisor on the recommendation of Research Board

Research Scholar to submit the his/her research plan (synopsis) to Research cell after the recommendation by University Research Committee (URC)

Monitoring of Research Scholar progress report by URC in every semester

Publication/Conferences/Seminars participation must be done as per UGC guidelines

Pre-Submission of Thesis after the 30 months of Ph.D. registration

Final submission of Thesis to research cell after the recommendation of URC

Ph.D. Viva Voce examination after successful approval by three examiners

Award of Ph.D. Degree on successful performance in Ph.D. Viva Voce

Research Promotion Policy

The various departments of the University conduct Workshops/Training programmes/Short Term Courses/Guest Lecturers/Seminars/Conferences/Webinars/Sensitization Programmes on a regular basis in order to promote research culture within the university. In order to promote the research in the University following encouraging steps are being followed:

• All faculty members are encouraged to attend National/International conferences and Faculty Development Programmes.
• In order to increase the number of research projects, faculty members having projects are considered for Performance Award Scheme (PAS).
• Faculty members are given sufficient opportunities and motivation for attending Academic/Scientific events, delivering lectures, and other research activities.
• Faculty is encouraged to file patents, Trade Mark, Copy Rights, etc.
• Faculty are recognised for their excellent publications.
• University has created an opportunity of teaching assistantships to encourage all NET/GATE-qualified scholars.
• Each student is motivated to attend conferences/write projects & other research-related work.
• Institute provides academic assistance for filing patents to Ph.D. candidates.
• In order to have a quality Ph.D., students have to get 2 publications in SCI / Web of Science / SCOPUS / UGC CARE indexed journals before submitting the Ph.D. thesis.
• R&D cell creates awareness and sensitizes researchers on the importance of IPR. Special lectures and workshops have been organized on IPR.

01 Research Policy

Candidates who have qualified a Master's degree from any university recognized by the UGC (with at least 55% of the required marks, or a CGPA of 5.5 or above on a scale of 1 to 10) are eligible to register for a PhD at NIMS University Rajasthan.

• The Directorate of Research (DoR) will determine whether a candidate's qualifying degree from a foreign university or institution is equivalent before confirming their registration for a PhD program at NIMS University Rajasthan.
• The degree would be granted from the Faculty in which the candidate received his or her PG degree, but the individual would be permitted to register for a PhD in a department related to his or her field of study.
• Marks required for master's degrees
• Candidates who have successfully completed the M.Phil., UGC-CSIR NET, JRF, SLET, GATE, or Teacher Fellow programs are exempt from the entrance exam.
